ON GRATITUDE is an accessible, conversational journey deep into the heart of gratitude, a collection of exclusive interviews with 50 of the world’s most compelling, provocative, brilliant public figures.
PUBLICATION DATE: NOVEMBER 2010.
Here’s the taster quote they’ve posted:
Linkin Park guru Mike Shinoda shares amazing stories of gratitude, and also lives a life of charity. (Check out his powerful work with www.musicforrelief.org).
“My grandfather and grandmother had 13 children, almost all here in the United States. They were both U.S. citizens when World War II began, and had made a good business and good money. But they lived in California. When WWII broke out, the West Coast became an ‘exclusion zone.’ All Japanese — and many other Asians — who lived in California were removed from their homes and sent to internment camps for the duration of the war. When they got out, everything they had was destroyed or taken away. In 1988, my dad got a letter and a check from the U.S. government. The check was pretty substantial for us at the time, but the letter was more important. I read it over a few times with my dad, mom, and brother, and my parents told us how the government made a huge mistake in the ’40s, and what a big deal this apology was. My parents wanted us to know that the internment showed us how the majority sometimes needs to speak up for the minority, especially when the minority can’t speak up for themselves. My dad gave the money to our church, but kept the letter.”
Have YOU ever had a powerful moment like this in YOUR life?

Thanks to everyone who has bought the game! We’re the #1 music app in the store, and #25 on the top paid apps list and climbing. There have been too many great reviews online for me to link to. Many of you have asked for lyrics to “Blackbirds,” so here they are.

Blackbirds – Lyrics
8 Bit Rebellion
I shiver and shake the warm air cold
I’m alone on my own
In every mistake I dig this hole
Through my skin and bones
It’s harder starting over
Than never to have changed
With Blackbirds following me
I’m digging out my grave
They close in, swallowing me
The pain, it comes in waves
I’m getting back what I gave
I sweat through the sheet as daylight fades
As I waste away
It traps me inside mistakes I’ve made
That’s the price I pay
It’s harder starting over
Than never to have changed
With Blackbirds following me
I’m digging out my grave
They close in, swallowing me
The pain, it comes in waves
I’m getting back what I gave
I drop to the floor like I did before
Stop watching / I’m coughing / I can’t be more
What I want and what I need are at constant war
Like a well full of poison / a rotten core
The blood goes thin / the fever stings
And I shake from the hell that the habits bring
Let the sick ones down / the bells will ring
Put pennies on the eyes / let the dead men sing
Chesters laugh at the end is awesome.

Read more...Am I getting better at manifesting my dreams or was this coincidence? I was thinking about Fort Minor’s song and the next day I wake up and meet the guy behind it. Let’s not forget the time I had a dream I met Jackie Chan while I was in Taiwan and the next day I get an email from Robbie saying we are demo-ing for Jackie Chan. Here is the Mike Shinoda manifestation story:
I went to the East West Players Visionary Awards yesterday to do some interviews for Pacific Rim. There were a lot of great people there and talented Asian artists. =)
The strange thing was this: 4am the night before I was writing song lyrics for my business fraternity’s 10 year reunion event…
Past present blending through the ages
Destiny scripted on your manuals pages
From E-xi till DnI we cry and laugh
That sig on the back you can keep my autographA fraction inspiration, the rest is sweat
Building boats and memories we’ll never forget
In you and I got u.n.i.t.y.
Reach for those dreams the limit is the sky!
…and that line “a fraction inspiration, the rest is sweat” was inspired by Mike Shinoda or Fort Minor’s song “Remember the name”.
So at 4am I fell asleep thinking about Fort Minor’s lyrics:
This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!
and the next morning (same day) I wake up to a text from Pacific Rim saying “hey I know its kind of last minute but can you help cover the East West Players Awards at 6:30pm today?” So I said yes.. and BAM! I’m covering the event and then get to meet and interview Mike Shinoda! It was awesome because I really like his music and style and he seemed like a very cool person.
If you guys don’t know, Mike Shinoda is an Asian American artist best known for his vocal and musical endeavors with two-time Grammy-winning, multi-platinum rock band Linkin Park who also has his own project Fort Minor. He also is an awesome graphic designer that graduated from The Art Center — and I happened to have just come back from The Art Center that day watching a screening for a grad program short film I worked on.Thanks to Joehahn.org

I have found this on Chester-land:
Smart Imagination is fortunate enough to have the foreword written by Chester Bennington, front man for Linkin Park and Dead By Sunrise. Chester Bennington is also co-owner of Club Tattoo, one of the largest tattoo-associated brands in the world. Bennington comments on Tattoo Stories, “The book is associated with a great charity, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and, anything that I can do to give back is always something that I’m interested in.” Smart Imagination has gained generous support by collaborations with Club Tattoo and leading tattoo shops and artists from around the world who are featured in the publication.

A few new things in Linkin Park world:
We’ve officially moved our band’s Twitter presence over to: http://twitter.com/linkinpark. Make sure to follow there (and http://twitter.com/m_shinoda; yes, it’s true, I occasionally tweet).
We just surpassed 4 million fans on Facebook. Pretty awesome. If you haven’t become a fan of us on FB yet, now’s the time…http://www.facebook.com/linkinPark.
And lastly, there was a great Washington Post piece about our game. Here’s a bit of the story:
“DENVER (Billboard) – When avid technophile Mike Shinoda was approached backstage last year with an idea for developing a Linkin Park iPhone game, the band’s co-frontman knew he wanted it to be more than just another run-of-the-mill artist app.
“It was important to us to do something creative and fun,” he says. “We didn’t want to throw a bunch of songs at the game, slap our name on it and cash the checks.”
The result is “8-Bit Rebellion,” a soon-to-be-released iPhone game with an iPad version on the way. Whereas most artist-branded games tend to be rhythm-based, “8-Bit Rebellion” is an action game that has users fighting enemies alongside members of the band. The soundtrack features several Linkin Park hits in both standard and 8-bit fidelity, plus an exclusive track, “Blackbirds,” for fans who complete the game.
But according to Maryanna Donaldson, creative director of the game’s developer, Artificial Life, the real innovation was the degree to which Linkin Park was involved. Each band member helped design a different “district” in which the game takes place, personalized to his individual interests. Shinoda designed the members’ avatars and edited every line of dialogue. The process wound up taking the better part of a year, but Donaldson says the result sets a new bar for artist-branded apps.

"For it to be top quality and appealing to the fan, the artist should be very involved," she says.
Meanwhile, the band's label, Warner Bros. Records, is supporting the app's launch with a movie-style trailer that will run in the IGN gaming community as well as virally through Linkin Park's YouTube channel. There will also be a Web site where fans can create and post 8-bit avatars of themselves.
"We're treating this like the release of a Linkin Park album or song," Warner Bros. Records senior vice president of new media Jeremy Welt says.
So a surprise LPU chat went on a few hours ago, here’s an outline:
* He’s packing for a snowboard trip
* Last the albums he bought were: 1.) Wu Massacre 2.) Yeasayer Odd Blood 3.) The Beach Boys / Pet Sounds
* He’s not sure about a Projekt Revolution in Australia (someone asked about that)
* He said Ugg boots are still cool in LA, every girl has them and lots of people were saying that he should design Ugg boots with his designs, he was appalled by it, but Lauren (LPUer) said he should design them and call them Thuggs, Mike laughed and tweeted about it!
* He doesn’t watch Lost (at least I think they were talking about the show).
* He doesn’t answer to people on Twitter because it’s “clutter-y” he posts on the LPUMB, chat, blog, and LP.com
* Blackbirds might be available on iTunes later, he’s not sure about performing it for future live shows.

Long ago, the world existed in 8 bit harmony…until PixxelKorp arrived. Now, you are the rebellion’s only hope to fight the evil corporation’s mass-brainwashing campaign.
PIXIE is PixxelKorp’s mascot. He’s soft and cuddly, and the kiddies love him. After all, he’s selling a highly addictive product. And if you mess with him, he will eat your brains.
Yum, brains.
You guys know that the chat with Mark Fiore was yesterday. Before Mark joined the Chat, Mike came and told us to get an Ustream Account because he and Chester will be chatting there later.
