FIRST DAY ON THE ROAD

From mikeshinoda.com:

Just arrived in Germany. It’s the first day of a short promotional tour for A THOUSAND SUNS. I’m still adjusting to the idea that this album is finally about to be released into the world after almost two years of hard work. Today (and for the next few days) Phoenix and I will be talking to people from all over the world about the songs, our recording process, the release, and what we like to eat and do when we’re in Germany.

Danke vielmals!

NEW LINKIN PARK APP

From mikeshinoda.com

As anyone who follows the band knows, we usually have a LOT of stuff going on. The tough part for us is finding a simpler way to keep you guys up-to-date. We’re trying out a new solution: the new Linkin Park App, for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android.

The app is FREE. It has all the obvious stuff, like news and tour dates, but also plays all our LPTV episodes and videos, finds other LP fans in your area (if you want), and collects all Linkin Park online activity, all in one place. You can connect it to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, so you can respond to a blog post or video without opening and closing a bunch of windows. You can also shoot photos at the concert, and immediately upload them online using the app…and it ranks users based on activity, so if you’re active on our sites, you’ll get recognized.

It currently supports English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, and Turkish. More to come.

For iTunes: http://awe.sm/595m7
For Android: http://awe.sm/595mD

Also, for those of you who have already downloaded the app, I just created a thread on the message board to discuss ways to make it better: http://www.linkinpark.com/forum/topics/new-linkin-park-app

Thanks!

NEW ALBUM, “A THOUSAND SUNS,” OUT SEPTEMBER 14

From MikeShinoda.com

No puzzles or hidden messages with this one. We’re excited to finally announce that our new album, A THOUSAND SUNS, will be released on September 14th.

The lead single for the album is called “The Catalyst.” It will be released on August 2nd.

Beginning tomorrow, July 9th, we’re teaming up with MySpace and MixParade for “Linkin Park, Featuring You,” a contest which gives you the one-of-a-kind opportunity to be on our new album. We’ll be giving you some audio from “The Catalyst,” and you get to take it from there; you can remix the parts, write something over them, or mute stuff and write something totally new. We may choose a remix of the song, and put it on the album…or, we may choose an amazing keyboardist, string quartet, guitarist, percussion group, or other musician, and invite them into the studio to play on one of our songs. No matter what instrument you play, you can win. We’re open to anything good. All we ask is that you include any audible portion of any one of our stems in your submission.

Once you submit, the community (that’s you) will vote, and the most popular stuff will rise to the top. Then, my bandmates and I will comb through the submissions, choose one winner, and they will be included on our album, A THOUSAND SUNS. Check out http://www.myspace.com/linkinpark for contest details.

I think I’ve said enough for now. Thanks for your continued support. We’ve got more announcements coming, so keep checking LinkinPark.com for updates.

That is AWESOME !! What do you think ?

Linkin Park Message #4

From mikeshinoda.com:

New message:

http://linkinpark.com/message

It looks like a puzzle to me ..we'll see =)

*update*

From LPA :

..and on first inspections the text appears to read as follows:

A
Thousand
Suns
\\
September

The community have also speculated that the last line could read "SepTwenty" which could allude to a Sep 20th release, which would represent the international date as it is a Monday.

UPDATE: Mike has updated his blog telling people to check out lp.com & our website, LPAssociation for the answer of the puzzle!

"You guys have done a great job solving the last two puzzles. For the answers, check the LP message board or lpassociation"

We appreciate the support as always Mike!

Join our community and let us know what you think of puzzle 4 in our comments section!

GET BUSY AT THE VIPER ROOM

From mikeshinoda.com

Saw Get Busy Committee at The Viper Room last night. Amazing! Here are some clips:

Young De played right before GBC–I had met him thru Cypress Hill and GBC a few times, but I had never seen him on stage. He’s got a lot of charisma up there. Good short set.

GBC opened with My Little Razorblade. The room was small but packed with excitement–lots of energy in the room.

They played a new song. I think it was called “Boys Have A Penis, Girls Have A Vagina.” I got too close to the speakers and my phone didn’t pick up the song. Oops.

All in all, it was a great time. BTW, I saw some people filming there…if you’ve got footage of the show, tweet GBC to let them know–they might want to talk to you about using it.

DAVID CHOE: NOTHING TO DECLARE

From MikeShinoda.com

I missed the opening of David Choe’s NOTHING TO DECLARE show in Beverly Hills; I was able to finally get down there this afternoon. Great stuff. If you get a chance, definitely check it out–it’s on Beverly in the space where there used to be a big clothing shop–so it has tons of room for the art. Loved the crazy balloon/whale/guts in the middle. I figured I wouldn’t post any pics of the show, since there are already tons online (Eric Nakamura had a great pictorial HERE, Hypebeast HERE, and David’s website HERE).

Lazarides and company are about to bring some good shit to Beverly Hills…Can’t wait for the next show, with JR, Antony Micallef, Vhils, and Connor Harrington.

BLACKBIRDS LYRICS, 8 BIT YOURSELF

From Mikeshinoda.com

Thanks to everyone who has bought the game! We’re the #1 music app in the store, and #25 on the top paid apps list and climbing. There have been too many great reviews online for me to link to. Many of you have asked for lyrics to “Blackbirds,” so here they are.

Also, we just added a fun online minisite where you can create an 8-Bit version of yourself–great for Facebook, Twitter, and Linkin Park community avatars :) Go here to 8 BIT YOURSELF

Blackbirds – Lyrics

8 Bit Rebellion

I shiver and shake the warm air cold
I’m alone on my own
In every mistake I dig this hole
Through my skin and bones

It’s harder starting over
Than never to have changed

With Blackbirds following me
I’m digging out my grave
They close in, swallowing me
The pain, it comes in waves
I’m getting back what I gave

I sweat through the sheet as daylight fades
As I waste away
It traps me inside mistakes I’ve made
That’s the price I pay

It’s harder starting over
Than never to have changed

With Blackbirds following me
I’m digging out my grave
They close in, swallowing me
The pain, it comes in waves
I’m getting back what I gave

I drop to the floor like I did before
Stop watching / I’m coughing / I can’t be more
What I want and what I need are at constant war
Like a well full of poison / a rotten core
The blood goes thin / the fever stings
And I shake from the hell that the habits bring
Let the sick ones down / the bells will ring
Put pennies on the eyes / let the dead men sing

EAST WEST PLAYERS VISIONARY AWARD

From Mikeshinoda.com

Last night, I was honored by the East West Players with their Visionary Award. Met some nice people, watched an awesome dance group called Kaba Modern. I also got covered by a very funny blog called Disgrasian, here.

Overall, a great night…but possibly one of the coolest parts was meeting “Russell” from the Disney movie Up. His real name is Jordan.
More info on the event here.

4 MILLION FACEBOOK FANS, NEW TWITTER, 8BR UPDATE

Mikeshinoda.com

A few new things in Linkin Park world:

We’ve officially moved our band’s Twitter presence over to: http://twitter.com/linkinpark. Make sure to follow there (and http://twitter.com/m_shinoda; yes, it’s true, I occasionally tweet).

We just surpassed 4 million fans on Facebook. Pretty awesome. If you haven’t become a fan of us on FB yet, now’s the time…http://www.facebook.com/linkinPark.

And lastly, there was a great Washington Post piece about our game. Here’s a bit of the story:

“DENVER (Billboard) – When avid technophile Mike Shinoda was approached backstage last year with an idea for developing a Linkin Park iPhone game, the band’s co-frontman knew he wanted it to be more than just another run-of-the-mill artist app.

“It was important to us to do something creative and fun,” he says. “We didn’t want to throw a bunch of songs at the game, slap our name on it and cash the checks.”
The result is “8-Bit Rebellion,” a soon-to-be-released iPhone game with an iPad version on the way. Whereas most artist-branded games tend to be rhythm-based, “8-Bit Rebellion” is an action game that has users fighting enemies alongside members of the band. The soundtrack features several Linkin Park hits in both standard and 8-bit fidelity, plus an exclusive track, “Blackbirds,” for fans who complete the game.
But according to Maryanna Donaldson, creative director of the game’s developer, Artificial Life, the real innovation was the degree to which Linkin Park was involved. Each band member helped design a different “district” in which the game takes place, personalized to his individual interests. Shinoda designed the members’ avatars and edited every line of dialogue. The process wound up taking the better part of a year, but Donaldson says the result sets a new bar for artist-branded apps.
