Laut.de Interviews Mike and Rob

If you thought you've seen the last of the ATS related interviews, think again! German website Laut.de just posted a particularly long one with Mike and Rob where they discuss various aspects of the album in-depth with an interviewer who misses their old sound. A great exchange between the band and the interviewer. Read the translation below.

27 hours 20 minutes flight time for the interview. Sometimes it is better to not calculate whether the effort is worthwhile for a specific action at all. But when you get the offer to interview Linkin Park, it's something you don't consider for long.

Some decisions just got easier to make and even though the chaos of this trip is relatively high, it's been almost smooth at the stage. So I'm sitting on a Wednesday afternoon in July at 14:00 (local time) in a hotel suite and get the chance to listen to six of the new songs from "A Thousand Suns".

Only the single "The Catalyst" has already been mastered, three more have not even a track title. But it quickly becomes clear that the new album will make for some surprises - and certainly also for some fans disappointment. For what matters, the inclusion of rock guitar is definitely not too much of a factor going by these numbers.

After two passes, I am finally invited to the next suite, where already seated are drummer Rob Bourdon & Mike Shinoda on the table and have just finished their lunch. Both seem in good spirits, Mike seems very interested and very polite. Soon comes into a good conversation, and in the end the journey has been worthwhile.

NEW LINKIN PARK APP

From mikeshinoda.com

As anyone who follows the band knows, we usually have a LOT of stuff going on. The tough part for us is finding a simpler way to keep you guys up-to-date. We’re trying out a new solution: the new Linkin Park App, for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android.

The app is FREE. It has all the obvious stuff, like news and tour dates, but also plays all our LPTV episodes and videos, finds other LP fans in your area (if you want), and collects all Linkin Park online activity, all in one place. You can connect it to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, so you can respond to a blog post or video without opening and closing a bunch of windows. You can also shoot photos at the concert, and immediately upload them online using the app…and it ranks users based on activity, so if you’re active on our sites, you’ll get recognized.

It currently supports English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, and Turkish. More to come.

For iTunes: http://awe.sm/595m7
For Android: http://awe.sm/595mD

Also, for those of you who have already downloaded the app, I just created a thread on the message board to discuss ways to make it better: http://www.linkinpark.com/forum/topics/new-linkin-park-app

Thanks!

THE HUMONGOUS SADNESS.

From MikeShinoda.com

I’m back with another featured character from our 8 BIT REBELLION game. “The Humongous Sadness” deserves its name, doesn’t it? I don’t even know if it’s a guy or a girl. All I know is that it is very big and very sad, and it says things like, “I think my cat is making fun of me behind my back.” I want to love The ‘Sadness and be its friend, but its general demeanor really brings me down, and I don’t need that kind of downer in my life, know what I mean?

Mike Shinoda on Gratitude

ON GRATITUDE is an accessible, conversational journey deep into the heart of gratitude, a collection of exclusive interviews with 50 of the world’s most compelling, provocative, brilliant public figures.
PUBLICATION DATE: NOVEMBER 2010.

Here’s the taster quote they’ve posted:

Linkin Park guru Mike Shinoda shares amazing stories of gratitude, and also lives a life of charity. (Check out his powerful work with www.musicforrelief.org).

“My grandfather and grandmother had 13 children, almost all here in the United States. They were both U.S. citizens when World War II began, and had made a good business and good money. But they lived in California. When WWII broke out, the West Coast became an ‘exclusion zone.’ All Japanese — and many other Asians — who lived in California were removed from their homes and sent to internment camps for the duration of the war. When they got out, everything they had was destroyed or taken away. In 1988, my dad got a letter and a check from the U.S. government. The check was pretty substantial for us at the time, but the letter was more important. I read it over a few times with my dad, mom, and brother, and my parents told us how the government made a huge mistake in the ’40s, and what a big deal this apology was. My parents wanted us to know that the internment showed us how the majority sometimes needs to speak up for the minority, especially when the minority can’t speak up for themselves. My dad gave the money to our church, but kept the letter.”

Have YOU ever had a powerful moment like this in YOUR life?
